Samsung has vowed that it will snatch 22% of the market share in the mobile phone market and increase its overall sale by 20%. This mobile Telephone giant, not until now, had a tremendous year (based on phone sales anyway) and there is a likelihood that 2010 holds much prospect.
A chat with Don Joo Lee, Senior Vice President of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Division and Digital Media Business revealed that Samsung expects the company to sell between 260 and 270 million phones in 2010 and reach a gory height of 22% of the market share.
In the 1st quarter of 2009, about 51 million phone units were sold, while 55 million units were sold in the 2nd quarter. 60 million handsets were recorded shipped in the third quarter and Samsung expects to sell about another 60 million units before the end of the fourth quarter. This brings a total of 226 million phone units sold through out this year.
However, if Samsung succeeds to sell 270 million units in 2010, then a 20% year-on-year growth would have been achieved.
Don Joo Lee also confirmed that Samsung aims to focus more on touch enabled smart phones by 2010 while some will un Android, others will have Windows Mobile and Symbian. Also some mew phones will run Samsung’s new Bada OS.
