Finally, reports of the possible release date of Sony Ericsson’s much anticipated Snapdragon Android smart phone, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10… mark the 10th of February as Sony Ericsson finally (hopefully) releases this phone and the world can finally see if the phone lives up to the hype.
The device was highly speculated upon after the announcement that Sony Ericsson would no longer be using the Windows Operating system after the XPERIA X2, this meant that the next XPERIA (then called the X3) would be using either the Google Android, Linux Mobile or the Symbian S60. Options aside, everyone pointed at the crowd favorite, Android, to be the most probable OS of choice; so many people could not be wrong.
The first rumor (or were those leaks?) of the XPERIA X3 spoke of a Sony smart phone using an Android operating system, and much to the delight of everyone, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
Speculation led to excitement as rumors that the upcoming device would bring Google Android’s latest version, the 2.0 Éclair on a 1 GHz device (at this time, only the Motorola DROID is using the Éclair OS). This was later refuted by Sony Ericsson when they finally released pre-production images of the new XPERIA, along with the formal announcement that it would be using Android 1.6 Donut and will be named X10.
Along with the November announcement came some final specifications, some of which are already expected, such as the Snapdragon 1 GHz processor. The 4 inch 480 x 854 pixel resolution display promises high resolution graphics. The X10 will also have an 8 mega pixel camera (with auto focus), 3G capabilities (such as HSDPA), WiFi, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm audio jack and GPS. As an Android phone, the X10 will also have the added functionality of Mobile Google applications such as Google Maps, Google Mail and Google Talk.
