HTC ROME Sporting a New Name?

HTC Touch BPictures tell a lot, despite the source pictures speaking in French; we can tell a lot has changed since the initial rumors of the HTC ROME first came out.

The sleek looking ROME (or should we now call it the “Touch.B”?) has some leaked pictures and they look great. The external case has a nice matte finish and what seems to be a classic black gloss over the screen. The control buttons right below the touch screen looks like they are made of soft rubber –here’s a bet that the response feedback may feel squishy but still responsive. There’s a micro USB slot on the very bottom of the device, and a 3.5mm audio jack on the top.

Taking device cues from their original HTC Touch, the Touch.B has that same sophisticated air about it. Making it look more like a phone for business than pleasure. There’s also a nice big button below the screen (looks like it’s a home button), but in some of the angled shots, the location looks awkward.

The images placed the phone in an empty background without any object references for size (they should take a cue from the folks who leaked the Sony Ericsson Kurara images), but with the audio jack and the micro USB slots for reference, we can see that this sleek little candy bar phone is pretty slim.

The images of the back of the mobile phone shows that Rome will come packed with a nice little built-in camera (the metal casing around the lens is a nice touch). The big news now is that the device will be using the Google Android operating system and is currently named as the HTC Touch.B –basing from the images that is.

HTC has recently been successful with their HD2 and people are looking forward to the Hero (which is rumored to be upgradeable to Android 2.0). Should the Rome/Touch B also have Android 2.0 as an OS, this will be HTC’s second next-gen Android phone.
