Just how much are you willing to pay for the latest tech gadget?
With the Apple iSlate rumored to be carrying a hefty 693 Euro price tag; it is hard to imagine anyone really shelling out the mega bucks for an oversized iPod Touch with basic net book features. Still, if one is to listen to the praise given by former Google China president Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, the device will carve out its own niche and will make millions for Apple. While this may sound like a wild claim, it is coming from a man with very heavy credentials. Bottom line is that Mr. Lee does not simply make passing comments without any basis.
Still, it appears that he has seen many things that the public has not regarding the iSlate. For now, the benefits of the device are not so different from what one may find on a high-end net book. While having a table is all spiffy and cool, it is hardly transport friendly with its huge and very vulnerable 7 inch screen.
Specs wise, the iSlate will have a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo process and a 2GB DDR3 RAM. The device is expected to have about 160 GB of internal memory and as stated above, will look like a huge iPod Touch.
The price is a pretty big wildcard; with its high cost, it is obvious that the iSlate is definitely for a niche market as its everyday casual functionality will be far lower than that of more convenient to access devices such as mobile phones.
Further details regarding the device is sketchy at best, Apple is promising to unveil more details regarding the iSlate come the end of January. Hopefully one of the details they will be announcing is the confirmed launch date for this much awaited tablet.
