Mobile phone technology is moving pretty fast, and while smart phones have edged out pagers and pocket PCs out of use, other forms of portable technology remain strong. The net book and mini-laptop technology has been an irreplaceable part of our lives thanks to the versatility and processing power that these devices are capable of. Despite smart phone able to handle several levels of document processing software, media playback and web browsing capabilities, net books are able to deliver more.
There is however, a small gap between net books and mobile phones. A gap for a device that has the web browsing capabilities of the net book but has the touch and go convenience of a mobile phone, this is that gap that will be filled by tablet devices.
Apple already has a strong foothold in the laptop and net book industry thanks to the iBook, Power Book and other similar devices. The company is also taking a lion’s share of the mobile community with its iPhones. Now, Apple intends to take control of everything with its upcoming table, the iSlate.
There have been reports that some of the iSlate’s specs have already been revealed. The tablet will be encased in a sleek “precision aluminum body” –which is probably the back since the front is rumored to be the full screen. Speaking of the screen, the iSlate will have a 7.1 inch capacitive multi-touch screen which means that browsing on this little mean gadget is bound to be very easy.
It will sport a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of DDR3 RAM, pretty fast and powerful for a device that is only supposed to handle web browsing. No details yet on whether the 120GB tablet will have a decent video card (it would have made for a good gaming unit). Apple is expected to unveil the full details by the end of January.
