CES Unveils a Whole New Android

MIPS-AndroidWith the launch of the Nexus One just passing many hours before the festivities at Vegas’ CES, it is certainly surprising to see the Android popping up again in a whole new light.

MIPS is bringing the Android to a whole new level of functionality; home entertainment. Despite being the number one mobile phone operating system available, the Android is getting used in many new ways, most particularly, to help bring internet connectivity to the living room.

While some might question why Android was chosen instead of the Google Chrome OS, it is easy to see that the Android needs far less resources and in terms of web browsing, it is far easier to use. Chrome OS is effective for net books and desktop where its wider range of features and capabilities will be best put to use. In a home entertainment system, the Android’s specialization in web browsing and media playback is better put into action.

The whole setup is pretty impressive, MIPS uses a small net book and a social media center will be the Android’s new base of operation in your living room. This will give users a brand new way to experience entertainment and connectivity.

For those who are not familiar with MIPS; MIPS has partnered with Adobe for the Open Screen Project in order to adapt the newer version of Adobe flash for MIPS hardware. With Adobe Flash becoming an integral component of modern multimedia, they believe that making their devices Flash compliant is of utmost importance.

The company is also tied up with Chips & Media, Discretix, Tensilica, Vivante Corp and other semiconductor IP firms. This will help make their devices more suited for the Android.

Expect to see and hear more about this promising company and its innovative Android based entertainment system in the next few months.
