Windows Mobile 7 to Finally Launch?

Windows Mobile 7It has been a very long time since Microsoft first announced that they will be releasing version seven of their infamous mobile operating system. Still, despite the many promises, we have yet to see any concrete demonstrations of the upcoming OS. At least now there are a few pictures that testify that there is some degree of development progress for the much delayed OS. According to the source, the OS is definitely arriving this 2010, though it has yet to be said exactly when –and even if the OS does launch, it will still be a while before a phone using the new OS will be available to the public.

Right now, all the WinMo focus is on version 6.5. With the update for 6.5.3 coming up, Microsoft is promising to help fix many of the problems that plague the OS –particularly its interface. Since WinMo is designed for use with a stylus, the buttons and links tend to be too small or narrow to press with a finger. Media Player Mobile is a good example with its small buttons and almost impossible to access track bar.

Still, despite the problems with the WinMo interface, manufacturers are still continuing to use the OS thanks to the many useful features of Windows Mobile. One way to get around the UI problem is through the use of custom user interfaces. HTC has done a great example of this with their HTC HD2 WinMo smart phone with the use of the HTC Sense interface which makes using the device easy.

HTC will continue to produce WinMo phones this 2010. They have already announced the HTC Photon, HTC Trophy and HTC Tera. All three devices will use WinMo 6.5 and the HTC TouchFlo user interface (instead of the Sense user interface). No word yet on when these phones will arrive.
