The Google Android operating system is getting a new browser, Mozilla’s Fennec.
Mozilla is known among computer users as the developer of the Firefox web browser. Firefox has long been the choice of many PC users in preference over Internet Explorer, Opera and Chrome. Of course, Firefox most definitely made a name for itself when it brought tabbed browsing ahead of IE.
The charm of Mozilla’s Firefox browser lies in its stability, add-on and customizability. Microsoft’s IE was difficult to tweak and lacked many of the features that was present in Firefox. Another advantage of Mozilla’s browser was that it was often updated, making it one of the most secure browsers for the PC.
Now, Mozilla will be bringing their brand of web browsing to the mobile phone. The Mozilla Fennec is has been in the works since last December and is expected to be launched formally for the Android this coming February. The Fennec for the Maemo has been launched some time ago.
The Fennec promises to bring many of the great features that made the Firefox such a famous browser. It is stable when handling sites that use different encoding and it is also able to load pages faster than other browsers. The security features on Firefox are some of the best available for the PC. Many of the vulnerabilities present in Internet Explorer do not work in Firefox.
As stated above, Firefox has plenty of add-ons. These add-ons allow users to determine what additional functionalities and tweaks their browser would have. There are even site specific add-ons that make browsing certain pages much easier (such as Gmail).
The Fennec has already proven itself on the Maemo systems; whether it is as successful on the Android remains to be seen.
