Sony Ericsson just showed off the new XPERIA X10 Mini Pro Android smart phone at the Mobile World Congress.
Clearly, we missed the news that reported or even hinted that such as advice as the X10 Mini Pro was in the works. The X10 Mini was originally the XPERIA Robyn and was already pretty known –but a keyboard toting version of the Robyn was far from the picture.
Though there was one other devices that came with a keyboard modification such as the Kanna (which was based on the Vivaz), these two phones are pretty apart in terms of both operating systems and target market. The Kanna (now known as the Vivaz Pro) is clearly for the high end Symbian market and the X10 Mini Pro is clearly a mid range Android phone.
The decision to deliver an Android smart phone with a physical keyboard is a great move by Sony Ericsson as it brings an element previously missing in their original lineup. Coincidentally, they have unveiled three devices with keyboard in the MWC for three different operating systems; the SE Aspen Greenheart phone which uses Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Maldives, the Vivaz Pro with Symbian 5th, and our device in focus, the X10 Mini Pro with Google’s Android 1.6 Donut.
Despite using an old version of the Google operating system, it is likely that an update to the firmware will be released later when the X10 launches this March. The device will also come with the new Timescape user interface, a 5 mega pixel camera and a 2.55 inch 240 x 320 pixel touch screen display. All in all, the Mini Pro is one impressive smart phone in terms of balancing specs with price.
