Sony Ericsson Unveils Eco Friendly WinMo Phone

Sony Ericsson AspenFor fans of the Sony Ericsson Greenheart phones, a new device has been added to the lineup and it is certain to fill that missing gap in the series: a business model eco-phone.

The Greenheart series from Sony Ericsson is more than just a mobile phone series; it is a standard of production quality. The mobile phone manufacturer has a strong internal policy regarding the reduction of carbon emissions and they have been consistent in the improvement of their products and production methods. Early this year, Greenpeace has named Sony Ericsson as the second greenest electronics company in the world (next to Finnish company Nokia).

Devices that carry the Greenheart logo are made from over 50% recycled plastic and use no toxic chemicals. Even the paint used in the device is water borne making it very safe for the environment. Even the packaging for the products is eco friendly; no paper and ink is used for printed manuals. Instead, manuals are digital, installed within the mobile phone. The actual packaging itself is very minimal allowing for less material to be used and better transportation options (which saves fuel).

The new device is called the Sony Ericsson Aspen and it uses the new Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system. The phone uses both a 2.4 inch touch screen and a portrait QWERTY keyboard. It also has a 3.2 mega pixel camera and it is expected to appear sometime around the Q2 this year. While the arrival of this device is the final lid on the XPERIA X2’s coffin (which due to delays, the device got pushed to a January release), it certainly makes for a better substitute. Speaking of which, the XPERIA panels UI will also be used in the Aspen.
