How Daily Technology Changes the World

InternetWhen they said big things come in small packages, they were not specifically referring to your super slim Apple iPhone 3G; but yes, having a smart phone is a big.

More than just being able to access 3G networks to Tweet about how much of a pain your morning commute was, smart phones are now slowly changing the social and political standards of society. Even places such as China and North Korea –known for their extremely strict governance of communication channels (uber-censoring if you would) are being penetrated by strong media channels that use the internet and mobile phones as forms of communication.

In the UK, the Conservative Party is pushing for integration of technology into daily lives, even pushing for that 10mbps connection and “data access rights”. Seriously, it all sounds great, but should we not be dealing with global warming even more?

Anyway, most of us are already familiar with the amazing ability of mobile networks to provide aid to other countries. Just take a look at those two major earthquakes that just happened. Thousands of donations were pledged and sent simply by using mobile phones; the actual news of the tragedy took only minutes to get spread thanks to the help of the internet. When it hit Facebook, concern and efforts for the victims of the calamities came almost instantly.

While having net will not stop wars, it does get the world involved. While traditional news channels such as broadcasted shows and newspapers are informative, the internet provides information faster and allows people to get their reactions heard. The same headline on your morning paper is only half as effective as the same news article on website with thousands of people commenting on the matter.
