The Sony Corporation is still one of the largest in the world, their products and innovations have led to many key comforts we enjoy today. Portable music devices started with the success of the Sony Walkman cassette player, Sony has also led the world of console game with the Playstation video game consoles. Even digital media formats have moved to the Blu-Ray disc thanks to Sony’s great support for the new medium.
According to rumors, Sony is now working on new devices in order to keep up with its competitors, and in particular, Apple.
Apple has a very strong standing in the mobile phone industry and in general, the portable electronics category with their iPod multimedia players. They also pose to take monopoly of the tablet industry with the launch of the Apple iPad tablet this coming April.
Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony has recently given a speech about the new upcoming technologies they are planning in order to compete with Apple.
First up is a multimedia tablet with web capabilities that is designed to compete with the iPad and the iPod touch. So far, no word yet if this is going to be the same tablet device that Sony has been working on, but it is known that this new gadget will feature integrated social networking apps and other web features. With Facebook and Twitter on the rise, it may be the perfect time for the company to update and re-release the Sony MyLO gadget (which failed before due to the lack of demand for a social networking tool).
Rumors of new Sony devices are not complete without talk of a Sony PSP Phone. While it has been confirmed that a new Sony branded phone that can play games has been confirmed, it is not a given that it will be a “Playstation” device –though it is likely that the new phone would have access to PSN.
