Chances are you already know that Steve Jobs has just announced the hard facts on the upcoming iPhone 4.0 OS. While the update itself is yet to finally launch, there is already plenty of things to look forward to.
Of course, the biggest feature of all is the addition of multitasking. This simple feature that is present on so many other devices has long been the bane of Apple users. Even the iPad which was released just last weekend did not have the feature available. This is why the inclusion of a multitasking feature on the iPhone is pretty monumental. The announcement stated that up to 4 tasks can be run at the same time and that users can take advantage of running location based apps as well as other features simultaneously.
The user interface got a slight overhaul too. While nothing has really changed in the neatly arranged icons view, users can now arrange content inside folders. This will bring up the total of possible stored icons to a massive 2,000 as opposed to the original 180. Also, the iPhone will now let you change the background image. No longer will you have to deal with the pure black screen behind the icons. Much like multitasking, this is another one of those simple functions that took Apple forever to add in.
Advertising on the mobile phone will also be changed by Apple as Steve Jobs presented the iAds. While this will be adding new content to our phones, there is a general concern for users about how much extra content will be sent into our devices and how much bandwidth it will consume.
Still missing is Flash support, though we can pretty much give up on that for as long as Steve Jobs is on the Apple’s helm.
