The official figures have yet to be released, but many industry experts and analysts are placing the first day sales of the Apple iPad touch screen tablet at a staggering 300,000 units sold. With all the long lines, pre-orders and the demand from stores for re-stocking, it comes as to no surprise that the numbers reached that many. Though in retrospect, nobody initially expected the tablet to be this big a hit.
The tablet is a completely new device. It is neither a smart phone, an iPod Touch, nor is it a net book. This standalone multifunctional Apple doodad has caught the interest of tech experts and critics alike since it was officially announced, and now, the official public verdict is in: in general, people love the iPad.
It is pretty obvious that there is no “need” for an iPad. After all, it delivers no functionality that does not exist in other devices that we already have. However, it is in the manner by which the iPad delivers the internet, eBooks, media and more that has made it the success it has become.
Running sales for the iPad are already placing some estimate at more than double the day one sales, hitting around 700,000 units. The prediction that sales figures will hit a million by the end of the week is no longer a surprise considering the current market trend.
According to various reports, Apple has been working hard in keeping up with the demands. Many stores have requested for re-stocks early, allowing Apple to bring in more iPad units –despite the continuous sales, hardly any retailers have run out of stock.
The success of the iPad is expected to carry on for the next few months, with the UK release of the device following the initial US sales performance.
