Video games are simply, one of the most amazing inventions of humankind in terms of entertainment. Beyond books, plays, radio, television and movies it is video games that delivers users a world that is not just there to observe, but one that they can actively take part in.
This is the true nature of video games –immersion by interactivity. While it does make for some of the most interesting experiences for some people, it is also quite dangerous for others. The real danger behind video games is often lost among those who fear it for so many other misleading reasons.
Most people shun games by claiming it to be mindless, violent, or being mindlessly violent. The truth of the matter is that video games actually take the edge away from users, providing them with a safe environment to be who they are, without harming those around them.
The real danger with video games is that some people do now know how to let it go. By the interactive nature of games, there are those that you can play almost endlessly. This is where the problem begins.
In this day and age, addiction often comes to people who are locked up in their rooms, glued to their computers.
Take that addiction further with newer and better mobile phones that would eventually bring high end technology available at your fingertips. Imagine an Apple iPhone with a video card capable of playing an MMORPG like World of Warcraft. Of course, we are still pretty far ways off from that level of technology (with dedicated video cards still not being made for mobile phones), but it is somewhere down the line and when that time comes, is our society prepared to handle the new surge of addictions that would rise?
