So it’s a great device. After all, it seems like the folks at Apple really do understand what the market really wants. With over 300,000 units shipped out on the first day and over 700,000 units in sales since, it comes as to no surprise that the touch screen tablet is the “it” gadget to have today.
Well, to give credit to the geniuses in Cupertino, having a touch screen device for accessing the internet, viewing media, reading eBooks and even playing a few games is not only fun, but also feels like this is how technology should have been. Granted that a mouse cursor is still convenient for letting us ‘tap’ the screen without our hands obscuring anything, the iPad’s pickup and use accessibility is by far the best thing that has happened for digital media.
Still, the device is not without its flaws.
Surely you would have already heard about the various hardware issues that seem to be plaguing the gadget –WiFi issues, USB charging and such. But there are also some downsides that are intrinsic to the nature of the iPad itself.
The first major problem is getting things done. The Apple iPad is just a media browser. You can type on it, but do not expect to be using the device as a workstation; iWork is not the answer. You will need you computer if you want to do something actually productive.
Lack of Flash is also a serious handicap. Despite features like the YouTube app, getting access to over 30% of internet sites will confront you with empty white boxes where flash content should be. Of course, the problems do not end there. The iPad is also a closed device, lacks a USB port, a camera and has plenty of other missing features.
