Apple is unveiling the new iPhone OS this Thursday, so it is unlikely that they will even bother with a wishlist like this, but this little roundup of what-ifs also reflect on what many iPhone users have been hoping for since the arrival of cut and paste.
The big ticket item on the 4.0 OS would be multitasking. Thanks to the dozens of rumors already pointing to the possible presence of an Expose-esque multitasking feature that will have users double tapping the home button to pop up a list of running applications to switch to, it seems like the new iPhone will really allow people to run more than one app or program on the device.
It’s a big deal, and as it is not even present on the iPad, it shows that Apple has come a long way into bringing in features that it normally does not consider important –which shows how silly the folks at Cupertino can be.
Many are also speculating that the new OS would support higher resolutions, and by higher we mean 960 x 640 pixels –as predicted by John Gruber. Considering the significantly better hardware that will be coming out for the new iPhone 4G, we might as well put in support for the front camera and hopefully –video chat.
Some are also speculating that the new OS would have features that are already present in the iPad. Things like rotation locking may seem like trivial additions, but these certainly help when you would prefer to have a fixed view even if you are moving around. Other hope-for additions include use of cloud storage services for iTunes and voice-to-text features ala Nexus One.
