In a recent interview, Charlie Kindel of Microsoft let out on a few interesting notes about the upcoming Windows Phone 7 mobile platform. The most interesting thing he noted was that several mobile phone manufacturers are already working on their own WP7 devices and brand names were dropped, and Sony Ericsson was added into the list.
It is already known that Samsung, LG and HTC are working on their own WP7 devices to be released later this year. LG’s touch screen and QWERTY keyboard toting Panther is the first device to have made a quick appearance on a leaked photo while the Samsung and HTC smart phones have yet to be revealed (it is known that Samsung handset will be using the super AMOLED touch screen technology seen in the Wave and the Galaxy S).
Asus’ name was also present though that hardly comes as a surprise as the manufacturer has been working closely with Microsoft in the development of the OS. So far, Sony Ericsson has yet to make their announcement, but Kindel’s words are more than enough of a confirmation.
Aside from that, it was also stated that there will be some initial limitations to the operating system when it finally launches such as multitasking support for third party applications (which means that multitasking will be present for built-in WP7 features).
The best part of the interview is when it was stated that development is running fast and smoothly. Which means that the chances of a delay in the launch of the new operating system is very unlikely –this comes as a big surprise from Microsoft who has had quite the track record with delays for launches.
For those who missed out, WP7 is the new Microsoft mobile platform that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress last February and it is expected to be released sometime later this year.
