Samsung to Go On Giant Recycling Campaign

SANGSUNG_400Once again, mobile phone manufacturers show that despite the mobile phone industry being one of the biggest producers of manufactured plastic waste, they are doing their best in order to help preserve the environment.

Well, ideally that is. But the truth of the matter is that Samsung, out of all the many smart phone manufacturers, has been pretty much behind with keeping up with the quota that they have promised. According to Greenpeace, Samsung has produced even more CO2 emissions in 2009 than they did the previous year.

It is a sad thing to know since Samsung has been enjoying plenty of financial success in the mobile phone industry. Nokia, currently the number 1 greenest electronics company in the world, has shown that it is possible to adapt green strategies and still be successful. Sony Ericsson, number two in the list may not have had as much success as other companies, but has earned plenty of respect in the industry for their dedication to the promotion and development of eco friendly devices; particularly their Greenheart series of smart phones.

Anyway, while it does not affect Samsung’s current production practices, their promise to recycle one million mobile phones for 2010 is something that many of us can look forward to. Aside from the actual recycling process they are planning, Samsung is also aiming to help increase awareness and to educate people about the need for greener alternatives.

With three months already past, Samsung only has a short amount of time to reach their goal of 1 million handsets. Despite this, the Korea based company is confident that they will be able to reach their goal. Samsung has also declared that they will reach their previously announced quota for CO2 emission reduction by 2013.
