Everyone thought that it was originally a David versus Goliath kind of thing when Apple took off its gloves and landed a pretty solid punch in the face of Taiwanese manufacturer, HTC. The original lawsuit is pretty massive, spanning the full context of 20 patents for hardware and software technologies; it is pretty hard to imagine how long Apple has been sitting on these patents before deciding to go all out in a legal battle.
However, it appears that the legal wing of Cupertino failed to predict how HTC would be reacting. With many of their Android devices being put into question, the Taiwanese manufacturer opted to forget the defense and take their own offense. HTC and Microsoft made an agreement that was finalized just a week back in order to secure the technologies being used by the manufacturer. With worries about the Apple lawsuit already being prepared for, it was time for HTC to let fly of their own punches.
Just recently, the company filed a lawsuit that seeks to earn an injunction against the importation of iPods, iPhones and iPads. With this 5 patent lawsuit infringement from HTC and a multi touch patent infringement case from Elan Microelectronics, the Cupertino based company is finding itself in a legal pincer strike.
Of course, Google and Microsoft will both be supporting HTC on this case –with Google having made its declaration early on and Microsoft now tied up with HTC.
A harsh as the move may be, many state that HTC is only defending itself. The recent lawsuit filed by Apple questioned a lot of technologies and has placed most of their Android devices in suspicion. As it appears that Apple originally intended to have the lawsuit impede the production lines for HTC, it is only equal for HTC to also find a legal stop to Apple’s products.
