The tech industry’s love-hate relationship with Microsoft has a long running line of things that many already have come to know and expect of the major software developer. Being late and having constant delays has become a quirk that is nearly synonymous with the launch of every single Windows-based mobile platform. This is why the possibility that Windows Phone 7 could possibly be only a couple or so months away from being released is a major surprise.
Just recently, several screenshots of the emulated WP7 operating system have appeared on the internet showcasing the new OS running at almost full capabilities. Developers have spotted a few problems in terms of graphics and even found a few bugs, but for the most part, all the system needs is a good and thorough polishing. Microsoft Office is already reported to be running smoothly and it looks pretty much like it did in the demonstration videos.
For those who missed out on the large wave of WP7 news and updates last month, here is a quick recap of everything that we should expect. First off, the device will be supporting plenty of new features. Xbox Live Games Service will be present on the device as well as the new MSN Player and Silverlight.
Bing will be the main search engine used by the phone and it will also support many Zune-based elements. Speaking of the XBL service, games are expected to run the full gamut of simple 2D apps to more extensive 3D games as the system will be running with the newly launched XNA support.
The OS itself will be featuring a completely stylized touch control user interface with fully customizable ‘tiles’ (think of widgets being more customizable) that will occupy the large spanning screens. There are already several WP7 devices waiting on the wings with various developers such as the LG Panther, and unnamed handsets from Samsung, HTC, and others.
