It seems that some people have been busy looking at the various in and outs of the mobile version of Facebook and their digital skullduggery has actually come up with some rather interesting results: a new locations tab will soon be added to Facebook mobile and it is another reason why having a GPS function on a smart phone can be so scary.
Mark Zuckerberg is a genius for coming up with Facebook, but he certainly is no humanitarian. As with all businesses, the point of establishing Facebook into the giant that it is today is in order for the web service to finally make some real money –not that it has not been generating millions. Simply put, Zuckerberg and Facebook have no obligation to protect the data of their users –data which will be used in order to provide advertisers with a better system for targeted ads.
We already know that Facebook is tracking the various comments, status messages and even the things we “like” within the Facebook network. This has further expanded with the inclusion of the new feature that allows users to like other websites outside of the FB network. This has since caused a scare among many users that their personal information may also be shared by the social networking site.
Aside from tracking the websites people visit, it appears that Facebook also wants to know the places that people also visit in the real world. The new locations tab has been sniffed out in the mobile version and those who found it believe that the feature would be up and running pretty soon. It may not seem like a big deal to have Facebook know what your favorite pub is, but there is certainly something creepy about an automated service that knows exactly where you are and when.
