The iPhone OS 4.0 Update is Coming

apple-1It seems that current iPhone 3G/3Gs users will get to try out the new iPhone 4.0 operating system a little earlier than would-be owners of the iPhone 4. According to Apple, the update will be released by June 21.

With the iPhone 4 being due for release on the 24th of June, this early release date will let Apple fans get a quick teaser on how the new OS looks and feels. As originally announced the OS will be bringing multitasking to the Apple handset. For the longest time, users of the iPhone have been hoping to have multitasking capabilities.

Apple-iPhone-4GSadly, running multiple apps on the iPhone is not going to be the same as with other mobile platforms; users will only be able to run a limited number of apps simultaneously. According to previous reports, the number of maximum apps running is expected to be at 4.

Aside from multitasking, the new update also brings iAds, a new form of in-phone advertising that, according to Jobs, will be very user-centric and is not supposed to interfere with regular phone functions. Naturally, many fans are not too eager about receiving ads out of nowhere, but at least users will get relevant ads as opposed to some random banner about products that no one really cares about.

One major factor still missing from the iPhone OS is support for Flash –which will never happen now after Adobe announced that they will cease to develop and support Apple. This came as a response to the SDK developer agreement for the iPhone 4.0 OS which specifically stated that third party developer tools are no longer allowed for the creation of Apple apps. This agreement technically banned the use of Adobe’s Flash Professional CS5 software as it featured a Flash to iPhone compiler.
