There is no doubt that the HTC Hero is one of the most successful Android smart phones ever to be released. Since this handset came out during the middle of last year, many other Android smart phones were compared to this HTC device –a testament to how well it delivered Google’s open source mobile platform.
In many ways, the Hero was a high end smart phone of its time, sporting many specs and features that few phones could match. While it is old technology by now, there are still plenty of proud happy HTC Hero owners out there.
Sadly, despite the success of the HTC Hero, it is one of the handsets that still used the previous version of the Android operating system; until today, the Hero still needs to be updated to version 2.1 of the Android OS, and thankfully, that time is about to come. According to HTC and Google, an update for the HTC Hero is already underway and it will be just a short while before users will be able to enjoy the newer, faster Android OS. It has also been stated that the update will come in two parts and that it will wipe out all content on the Hero.
Existing users of the smart phone are being advised to back up all their data and files to computer prior to updating the handset’s operating system. It is expected that a similar warning will also be shown when anyone tries to use the update, but HTC hopes that users would choose to back up their data as early as possible.
The new OS update promises plenty of new features and valuable additions to the OS. Support for multi touch, live wall papers, speech to text functions, a new photo gallery and several other useful functions.
