It seems that Microsoft is right on track.
Steve Ballmer impressed the whole world when he went up on stage to showcase the new Windows Phone 7 operating system. With the bad track record Microsoft had with the Windows Mobile OS, it seems that not many people were too interested in whatever update Microsoft had been brewing up.
But when Ballmer presented an all new OS with a sleek user interface, social integration and a snazzy way of customizing the screens using Tiles, the presentation blew all expectations. Of course, the fact that this all happened last February at the Mobile World Congress left a very ominous feeling for anyone excited about the new handset –how long will we all have to wait? Steve already had an answer, as vague as it was; the presentation ended with a statement that WP7 will be out by the holidays.
Now, it seems that Microsoft has been able to keep to their deadline and has been able to confirm that the very first smart phones that will be using the Windows Phone 7 OS will be coming out this October to December –and it will certainly be a very exciting holiday season for all.
So far, there has been no confirmation on which devices will be the first to be released, though the LG Panther is a prime candidate. The smart phone was revealed in images as early as March and has been seen in some impressive screenshots as of late. The device will feature a large capacitive WVGA touch screen, the new WP7 OS and a slide out keyboard –which matches with the type 2 chassis in the Microsoft’s official list of requirement for the new OS.
Another WP7 device slated to be launched this year is the HTC Mondrian –this standard touch screen smart phone is rumored to have a very high speed CPU clocked at 1.2GHz or even higher.
