Kinetic Scrolling Now Available for Nokia 5530

nokia-5530-xpressmusicThe Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is getting a pretty nice patch from Finnish manufacturer, Nokia. According to reports, the latest patch fixes up some unmentioned issues, adds a few new icons to the music menu, gives users extra RAM to use (about 2MB worth has been freed up) and the phone will not have kinetic scrolling features all throughout.

This may seem odd since the XpressMusic 5530 already has kinetic scrolling features, but this is not actually enabled throughout the entire handset. This only applies to the main menu and a couple of other sub menus. The rest of the device still relies on manual scrolling.

This many not seem like such a big issue for some, but anyone who has used a touch screen phone will certainly appreciate having the extra convenience. Kinetic scrolling on touch screens is practically bringing the same amount of convenience to users as the mouse wheel did for desktop computer users. By adding in a new input motion, users will now be able to save energy and time from having to do repetitive things such as scrolling continuously with a finger just to get to the very end of a document.

Of course, kinetic scrolling is not perfect –especially if you are trying to get to something that is in the middle of a page or menu. Though users will be able to quickly adapt to the speed and strength of the scroll gestures –it is actually a very intuitive system and once added in, scrolling on a touch screen feels a lot more natural than the original manual scrolling that was available. This is mostly because the OS translates actual motion speed into account, which then gives a more logical response.

The update is already available via Nokia’s official Software Updater or through the mobile handset’s update function.
