The X5-01 Nokia smart phone was revealed at the Nokia Connection event. While the device has only appeared in Singapore, it is expected that the X5-01 will eventually be making it to the UK shores –hopefully it gets an upgrade along the way.
Overall, the square looking handset makes for the perfect music-lovers smart phone. It brings the Symbian^3 operating system, access to Nokia’s Ovi store (which means that you can access the Ovi music store’s library of music) and of course, excellent quality speakers –though users are more likely to stick to using the 3.5 mm audio jack on the handset.
While more traditional smart phone users will want to pass off this device for other more OS-dedicated handsets like the upcoming N8 or the rumored N9, the X5-01 is a great fit for casual phone users who would appreciate having a smart phone (which means access to 3G, internet and more). The device comes in a wide range of colors such as blue, yellow green, pink, black and purple (though Nokia’s name choices are a little more interesting: azure, purple, yellow green, pink and graphite black).
The device’s 2.3 inch TFT display gives you a good clear view of the device’s user interface and the 320 x 240 pixel resolution is just right for a phone of this size. It does feel a little bulky, but the QWERTY keyboard is actually well made so expect to be able to type out long emails on this handset without too much trouble.
With only 200 MB of internal memory, it would be best for users to make use of the micro SD card support (which will support up to 32 GB cards) for storing their music libraries.
The device is set to launch in Asia in the next few months; hopefully, the device will arrive in the UK just before the holidays start.
