Let’s face it, buying an iPhone 4 is quite expensive. And when you finally get your hands on that shiny new Apple device, what will you do with its older brother? Well, Sell My Mobile says that most people just recycle it.
Because of the iPhone 4’s release, thousands of consumers have traded in their iPhone 3G or 3GS units for a considerable amount of cash. According to Sell My Mobile, a site which compares handset recycling deals, Apple devices dominate the recycling market.
To be specific, the most recycled mobile phone in the UK as of last month was the iPhone 3G (8 GB version). Its 16 GB version as well as the 16 GB 3GS complete the trio of winners in terms of the most recycled devices. Close behind the Apple trio is Nokia’s 5800 Xpress Music as well as the BlackBerry Curve 8900.
The average trade in price given by Sell My Mobile was 77.75 GBP but there was a disclaimer posted saying that significant price differences may be observed depending on a site to site basis. It seems to have paid off for those who have waited patiently for a good deal though. Higher trade in values reportedly reach up to a solid 170 GBP when people choose to trade in their older Apple iPhone unit in well researched sites.
Three days after the Apple iPhone 4 was launched, it reached a whopping 1.7 million units sold, which made it rank among the most successful debuts for an Apple device. Unfortunately, the new device is plagued by numerous design flaws and showed shoddy manufacturing (at least for the preorder batches). Adhesive stains on the screen as well as poor reception when gripped a certain way may mean that owners have to trade in their new units for a full refund in an Apple retail store nearby.
