Nokia’s New Slider is the N9 Handset

nokia_logoIt is finally official, the new handset from Nokia is indeed called the N9 and from the looks of things, it will be getting a very big name change before it makes it to retailers. The big change comes from the fact that the handset is a Symbian mobile phone.

Now, the only reason this actually matters is because Nokia has actually made it clear some time ago that the N8 is the last time that they will be making use of the Symbian operating system for any of their N-series devices. Effectively, the N-series has dropped the Symbian. While the OS is still going to be used heavily by other mobile phone series under Nokia, such as the C-series and the E-series, the shift of the Symbian from N series to other phones makes it look like a demotion for many people.

There have been some statements saying that the device is being called as the C0 and other rumors speculate that the device will be headed for the E-series. In both cases, one can easily see that the general perception of the phone is that it will certainly be getting a name change.

As for the hardware however, it seems that the device will not be getting much of a change from the already impressive setup available now. The new phone seems to be packing some serious heat in terms of specs as the smart phone is enough to deliver 720p HD video recording at 30 FPS, the phone will also be supporting all the usual smart phone features as well such as Bluetooth and GPS.

Speaking of HD videos, media playback on the N9 will be much more fun with the inclusion of the new HDMI output port (and according to some rumors, it will even support composite cables as well).
