Windows Phone 7 Set to Go on October 11

With only a few short days away from the big event that Microsoft is planning, there is already plenty of speculation that can be found online. Of course, getting down to the bottom of the news may seem confusing, so here’s a quick fact sheet primer to the upcoming mobile platform.

First off, the new OS is definitely going to see some official exposure on October 11, but the real launch will not be until 10 days later, October 28. At that point several phone makers will be offering interested buyers with a wide range of WP7 devices to choose from.

Among those phone makers, surprisingly absent would the Japanese Swedish joint venture Sony Ericsson and Motorola. It should also be noted that Microsoft has just filed a patent infringement case against Motorola due to some issues with the phone maker’s Android devices.

Definitely present at launch would be LG, Asus, HTC and Samsung.

HTC’s Mondrian and Mozart handsets are all ready as images and full spec details of the handsets has been leaked for quite some time now. Samsung has also confirmed that the Cetus WP7 smart phone is more than just a handset, it is the start of an all new series of devices running Microsoft’s new mobile platform. LG’s keyboard toting smart phone and the Asus handset (which was used in the WP7 demonstrations) are also going to be in the starting lineup of handsets as well.

For those who have not seen the demonstrations of the new Microsoft mobile platform, this new OS brings an all new look. The layout is very touch based and all the functions are linked to each other. WP7 supports a wide range of content as well, from full-fledged games running on the XNA hardware to the use of Microsoft Silverlight for some menus. The OS also supports Zune and a myriad of the media centric features and social networking tools.
