Nokia’s N8 Finally Ships Out

When it comes to delays, no other handset has been as tardy as the Nokia N8 Symbian smart phone. The device has been so delayed that actual interest in the phone itself is almost dead, but since there has been so much fuss on the number of announced delays for the phone’s launch, it is actually a bit of remarkable news how it actually managed to get shipped at all.

As much as we would like to be joking about it, the fact of the matter is that the Nokia N8 was due to be released sometime earlier this year. The earliest confirmed plan was for an April launch which would have put the handset alongside the HTC Desire and the XPERIA X10. While it certainly lacked the hardware to compete, the N8 was still a pretty good phone at time.

However, constant delays has pushed the handset’s launch further and further back –which was actually made worse by the fact that since April, interest in both Nokia and the Symbian operating system has been slowly decreasing. Also, the public interest in the MeeGo operating system that Nokia was also developing also started to grow, making it all the more harder for the N8 to gain any ground.

Not that the Symbian^3 powered N-series handset is not without its good points. The N8 is primarily a media smart phone. It packs a high powered 12 mega pixel camera and plenty of media playback support as well as a mini HDMI output port as well. Had this phone been out earlier, it might have been successful to a certain degree.

With the Symbian^4 already confirmed to be in the works and the MeeGo powered N9 due to be released this December, it is starting to look pretty bad for the Nokia N8.
