iTunes Sales: Skyfire in Demand

The last thing Apple said about Flash is that it is not something that iPhone users want. Now, the truth has risen to the surface, Flash is very much in demand for iPhone users. In fact, that would actually shell out money just to have the feature on their iOS devices.

According to the latest sales results from the Apple iTunes store, the Skyfire app has been able to obtain some record breaking sales over the span of a single weekend, with continuous profits still coming in. For those wondering, the Skyfire application is Flash video conversion tool that allows iOS users to view Flash video content online. The app simply monitors the Apple Safari browser for any Flash video content (that is naturally blocked by the iOS) and will allow users to have the video converted to H.264 format on the fly.

While not exactly the fastest or smoothest method of being able to see Flash on the iPhone, it is certainly better than having to see the placeholder icon reminding users that their expensive, high end smart phone is too fussy to support Adobe Flash format media online.

Of course, Skyfire will launch the video on a separate area –not exactly replacing the placeholder image, but compared to not having Flash at all, this is a very big step. Of course, interactive content such as menus and entire Flash sites are still pretty much inaccessible.

Looking at the situation, it is easy to see how far Steve Jobs and the anti-Flash propaganda have gone awry. While it is true that stabilization of performance has been an issue for Flash on the iOS, proper support from Apple –instead of alienation, would have helped Adobe find a suitable solution to the issue. Instead, Jobs chose to push away Adobe and the end result is that Flash player support will be coming to all other operating systems, leaving Apple behind.
