The Alcatel OT 203 mobile phone has been Carphone Warehouse’s fastest selling pre paid handset to date, the retailer announced this week.
The promotion saw the Alcatel OT 203 selling for only £9.50 as part of a partnership with The Sun newspaper. The promotion started on the 14th of this month, and was open to customers who produced four tokens collected from The Sun.
Carphone Warehouse has said that it sold an astonishing 14,000 of these mobile phones within only 2 hours of opening trading, with lines of people waiting outside the retailer’s Glasgow and Liverpool stores.
By the end of the three day promotion 47,000 Alcatel OT 203 mobile phones had been sold, making them the fastest selling pre paid handset in the history of the company.
The company stated that it expects the handset will be the best selling pre paid device in the mobile industry for this week, which isn’t surprising really; not when you consider buyers will have change left over from a £10 note.
The CEO of Carphone Warehouse, Andrew Harrison, said that; “The speed at which this handset flew out of our stores was simply staggering. We saw an extra 100,000 customers over the three days the promotion ran, which just goes to prove that customers still love brilliant value handsets,” adding, “We shouldn’t forget that for every customer who wants an iPhone, there is another customer looking for the best value on the high street.”
Personally I’m thinking that these phones would have been most popular for parents who had kids constantly begging for a mobile who didn’t want to spend a fortune, as well as with the kind of people who are constantly breaking their handsets – we all know at least one person like that, I’m sure.
