Apple Investigates iPhone Battery Claims

Apple iPhoneApple has just started to investigate allegations stating that one of its devices, the iPhone, is experiencing significantly shortened battery life as a result of the upgrade to 3.1 firmware.

A great many upset iPhone users have been posting angry messages on the Apple Support forums, almost all of them telling of the latest update causing their battery life to be cut down drastically.

Apple has reportedly been sending out a number of emails to users who claim to have been effected negatively since the upgrade to the mobile phones firmware, and are said to be asking them a number of different questions about what exactly it is that they are experiencing.

Allegedly, one of the questions Apple is asking in these emails is; “When you notice a power drop, does it seem to be a legitimate power drop, or rather an issue with the battery icon indicator?” – Like all iPhone users we are hoping it is a problem related to the battery power display being inaccurate rather than an actual battery life issue – at least then we would be able to expect a hot fix within a day or two.

Currently Apple is requesting that their iPhone users who seem to be affected download and install an application on their handsets to measure the drop in battery power, after which it sends a report back to Apple. (This is achieved by the application syncing with iTunes.)

This comes as a real knock to Apple, as there was already some grumbling from users about the shorter than average battery life on the new iPhones, however they are clearly working hard to fix the problem. Stay tuned for updates
