With the recent launch of the Apple iPhone 3G S, industry watchers are asking, “Should Palm be worried?” It has previously been reported that Palm isn’t targeting the iPhone as competition to the Palm Pre but it’s inevitable that the two will be pitted against each other as they are currently the most eagerly anticipated devices this year. If I were to make a comparison between the two I would say the iPhone 3G S leads when it comes to principal features. I mean, this version of the iPhone is being touted as two times faster at the minimum. Depending on task, this iPhone could be up to three times as fast (when opening e-mail attachments, for instance).
It would also appear the iPhone is the more superior device when it comes to usability and availability of applications. The iPhone OS 3.0 lends itself to user friendliness and it also makes available a wide range of apps that are fun as well as functional. Perhaps a key issue that Apple should address is the multi-tasking capability of the iPhone 3G S as in this department, I would have to give a point to the Pre.Gaming is undoubtedly the iPhone’s turf. With its improved 3D and graphics technology, the gaming experience over the iPhone 3G S is superior.
In other features, the two are rather head to head and overall I wouldn’t mind ending up with either mobile phone, although if I had to choose just one I’d go for the iPhone.
I believe this device has achieved an impeccable balance between functionality and style. Who doesn’t want to be seen with an Apple iPhone? Now you may have noticed the Blackberry Storm is missing from this showdown. Well, RIM’s foray into the touchscreen market didn’t do so well but there are reports that the device is due for an upgrade. We’ll just have to wait and see until then.
