Users of BlackBerry smartphones can now add yet another app to their list of exclusive options, TiVo, which will allow them to browse through, search and set up recordings of different TV programs on their TiVo DVR right from the BlackBerry mobile phone sitting in their pocket or on their desk at work. The new app is now available for download in the BlackBerry App World store.
The storefront text describes the application as follows; “With TiVo for BlackBerry smartphones you can wirelessly access your channel listings and program your favourite shows while on the go with the familiar TiVo look, feel and features that you’ve come to enjoy at home. Whether you’re working late or stuck in commute on your way home from the office, you can quickly and easily seach by title, keyword or actor for what you like to what. Maybe it’s the latest news, a season finale, or a movie.”
Effectively it lets users turn their BlackBerry handsets into remote controls they can use anywhere, browsing through shows and categories while choosing which ones they want waiting for them at home – plus the app has a handy little function letting them add the times of the selected programs to their calendar.
To us, this seems like a simple application, but also a very logical step and something a lot of people will choose to make use of; in a few years time when mobile phones being able to control all aspects of technology in our homes from anywhere, be it work or across the globe, we will look back and remember it started with BlackBerry and TiVo.
