HTC Click announced as Tattoo

HTC TattooThe HTC Click has received an official announcement by the Taiwanese company, and has had its name changed from the Click to the Tattoo. The Tattoo will aim to make Android more affordable by bringing the popular Google OS to a lower priced handset and it will be one of the cheapest Android phones to be released by HTC, who have to date released more Android devices than any other company.

Android phones have so far made use of capacitive HVGA screens but the Tattoo will see a departure from this trend and a move instead to a QVGA resistive screen. HTC state that this is because the latter technology is more adequately suited to a screen of the Tattoo’s size which is 2.8″. While using the Android OS the Tattoo will also make use of HTC Sense UI and will be the second HTC phone to do so after the HTC Hero. HTC state this will make the phone much more customisable than bare naked Android handsets.

The phone will be even more customisable due to the re-emergence of interchangeable covers with the Tattoo and this is apparently the inspiration for its name. Interchangeable covers were all the rage several years ago with people having just about any design you could think of plastered all over their phone. For the past few years however people have had to make do usually with a choice of black, and sometimes white and couple of other colours, and many people are rejoicing at the prospect of having a Jade Goody phone again. Owners of the new Tattoo phone will be able to upload their own designs to an HTC service and have them turned into a new cover for the phone.

With 528MHz Qualcomm processor and 256MB RAM the Tattoo performs well and there is a 3.2 megapixel camera included with autofocus, but unfortunately no flash. HTC has stuck to their promise of including 3.5mm audio jacks on all their phones after complaints about their fiddly proprietary headphones and memory will be upgradable through the use of microSD.

With making Android available on a more affordable handset and with the reintroduction of changeable covers the HTC Tattoo could be a phone to pay attention to and will go on sale in the UK during the month of October.
