I am excited to say that according to a report on Softpedia, Microsoft’s “Project Pink” seems to have been resurrected.
Initially rumours supported the idea that the Redmond company was going to release a mobile phone running, of course, its own Windows 7 OS. This time, the gossip all points towards the release of two handsets we are likely to see launched at the Consumer Electronics Show, which takes place in January 2010. The new phones will reportedly be manufactured by Sharp and operate on a sliding design.
It is expected that the both smartphones will be branded “Microsoft+Sharp”, although they are currently going by the codenames Turtle and Pure – this will likely be changed pre launch however, as while many handsets are known by less than inspired names, “Turtle” is not really the image we think they are going for.
A statement has been made that the devices wont be launched at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, largely due to the fact that Windows Mobile 7 is not going to be ready until the end of this year – however, it is not unheard of for a company to make a mad dash for the finish line to get their products out in such little time; so we aren’t ruling it out just yet.
Even though Project Pink is largely being kept under wraps, an advertising agency has already been chosen for the project, (McCann Erickson,) so we reckon it isn’t quite the fairy tale they would have us all believe – just remember to act surprised!
