We reported some time back that Microsoft was rumoured to be working on something known as Project Pink; this involved the development of two different mobile phones as well as services exclusively developed for them. Now, according to various different websites, it seems that Project Pink is well and truly doomed.
We were interested to see the leaked images which were allegedly of the two handsets from Project Pink, being referred to as the Turtle and Pure; but it now seems that Microsoft is no more committed to releasing its own mobile phone into the market as it was previously, and as a result Project Pink has, or will be soon, cancelled.
Apparently, between 2008 when Microsoft got a hold of the people from the Sidekick/Danger team, many of them have decided to leave the company – meaning that the Project Pink team doesn’t have the resources of knowledge base any longer to continue with the project.
What we found most interesting was that the remaining Pink Project team members supposedly have a very high dislike for the project – many of them are iPhone users, and those who aren’t still largely stick with their old Sidekick/Dander mobile phones.
The project is also an alarming 2 odd years behind schedule, and in order to try and save time very basic functionalities we all take for granted in our handsets, such as a calendar feature, have been completely cut off of the project.
The best we can hope for now is that some time in the future, after the disaster that was Project Pink has been forgotten, Microsoft start anew and allow enough time to properly develop a word class mobile phone – also, that they don’t rush production and end up with a handset equivalent to what was the initial Vista OS; broken and headache inducing.
