30 Million LG KP100 Sold

LG KP100Today, LG made the stunning announcement that they have sold over 30 million of their entry level LG KP100 mobile phones. A number representing LG’s established spot at the core of the mobile market, with the entry level audience always playing a significant part in the big picture.

Take a moment to consider how many units that actually is. 30 million mobile phones – there are only around 21 million people in the country of Australia. This is a huge success for LG, who seem to be going from strength to strength this quarter.

The LG KP100 was first released in India and Latin America at the beginning of 2008, and not long after that were in stores around the world. The mobile phone has both CDMA and GSM versions. The popularity of the device continues to soar each month, and LG has responded by creating the similar KP105, KP106, KP107 and KP108 handsets in order to offer more variety, including different connectivity options, to their customers – although the most appealing different is the range of colours, with the device coming in three designs and 15 different colours.

Today, LG saw the mobile phone hit the 30 million milestone, with 20 million of the GSM unit sold and 10 million of the CDMA variety. The handset, which has been on the market for two years this coming January, has a tiny price tag, a tiny body, a tiny (but adequate) display and a big following.

It may not be a Nokia 1100, which sold over 200 million units in its four years at the top, but 30 million is nothing to sneeze at, especially given the tough competition in today’s mobile marketplace.
