A recognized leader in mobile technology, LG Electronics announced today the launch of their latest compact, touch screen mobile phone – the LG GD510 – more commonly being referred to as the “Pop”. This latest handset can be charged up using solar power, and reflects LG‘s strong support of green initiatives as well as their commitment to making the world a better and healthier place.
President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, Dr Skott Ahn, said; “We at LG have successfully reduced 2.1-million tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the first half of 2009 through greater energy efficiency and improved manufacturing processes,” adding that, “We develop our products based on the company’s goal of eco-friendly sustainability. Our green policy is included in the handset’s entire lifecycle process, from raw materials through production, logistics, usage and disposal.”
The company’s eco friendly ambitions come through loud and clear with the new LG GD510′s solar battery cover, which not only lets customers utilize solar power, but also gives them a boost when they are out and about and low on juice – according to the official website, ten minutes of sunlight can allow for up to 2 minutes and 15 seconds of talk time, or 180 minutes, (3 hours,) of time on standby.
LG prices the GD510 Pop on the way in which it is constructed; although the company adheres to the regulations and requirements set by the European Union’s RoHS, they went above and beyond with this particular mobile phone, making sure that it doesn’t contain any polyvinyl chloride, (PVC,) and is constructed free of BFR and CFR, (brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, respectively,) almost 99.9%
We will be interested to see if other company’s follow their example, and we start to see more eco friendly handsets next year.
