Nokia’s latest addition to its touchscreen portfolio, the Nokia 5230, distinguishes itself as an affordable multimedia and social networking handset that is also elegant besides. It comes with a gorgeous 3.2” resistive touchscreen that supports 16 millions colors on a near VGA resolution. Its looks the same as the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music but puts focus on multimedia entertainment and sacrifices a couple of features to make it more accessible to its markets with a more wallet-friendly price tag.
Superb Features
There’s no WiFi and its imaging capability gets pruned with a 2 megapixel fixed focus camera without flash. But those shortfalls are more than made up with the following superb features, to mention some.
- As a multimedia handset, the Nokia 5230 features an easy to use music player with 33 hours of playback time between battery charging. A great listening experience on the handset includes Nokia’s Comes with Music subscription service that offers unparalleled value with “eat all you can” downloadable music files.
- Sporting a new user interface on its Symbian OS 5th version, the Nokia 5230 has media and content bar on its homescreen that allows you instant access to your apps and files. Visiting Nokia’s Ovi Store and Ovi Share from the Nokia 5230 is a snap as it is part of the media bar.
- There’s the pioneering Contacts Bar that thumbnails up to 20 images of your friends for quick access when you need to contact them or to access their respective communications history from calls, emails to social networking updates.
- There’s a web browser that’s enabled for YouTube and Flash video.
- You get Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP support for wireless stereo earphones and a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.
Arriving Soon Enough
With a competitive price tag of €149, the Nokia 5230 is expected to arrive in the UK markets in the fourth quarter of 2009 in a variety of interchangeable back cover colors such as pink, red, pink, yellow, blue, silver and dark silver.
