September 15th saw an exclusive report regarding the new firmware published over at allaboutsymbian.com, and there are some very impressive features coming with this firmware.
The upgraded firmware for the new Nokia N86, with its 8 mega pixel camera, includes an option for “Face Detection”; something never before seen on a mobile phone handset with a Nokia brand camera before today.
If you have ever used one of Samsung’s higher end models however, you will already be somewhat familiar with what this function lets you achieve – when running the camera application it will automatically scan for human faces and then focus on any that is picks up on within the frame.
As well as the amazing “Face Detection” functionality, the next firmware provides a much better quality of photos, with less noise, less artifacts and better, stronger colouring.
When it comes time to shoot with multiple people in the frame you will notice that while the camera will show the closest face as the focus, it will recognize everyone who is in shot – making for some very impressive opportunities while out with friends or holidaying with others; after all, an 8 mega pixel camera in your phone is easily a much better option than your stock standard 6 mega pixel digital camera that without fail gets lost and/or runs out of batteries.
The final positive of the new camera capabilities are the fact that photo file sizes will be even smaller than before, allowing you to take more pictures before being forced to upload them onto your computer – with 8 GB of memory in the Nokia N86, this could be not only the phone of the future, but also the camera.
