More Than Just a Netbook – the Nokia Booklet 3G

Nokia Booklet 3GYou have laptops, notebooks, sub-notebooks and netbooks flooding the mobile computing markets in varying numbers.  Enter the Nokia Booklet 3G.  Not that we don’t welcome it, but Nokia calling it a “mini-laptop” seems to add more confusion to the various portable computing devices out there.  But with upscale leading edge features straddling the world of laptops, netbooks and the mobile phones, this is sure to find a market niche among netbook users wanting a more muscled mobile toy beyond just getting online.

Superb features on a Netbook

Its diminutive slim form may put it in the netbook category, but the Booklet 3G really has little to share with many netbooks out there, other that its internet accessing capability.  As a “mini-laptop,” it does boast of a more beefy Intel Atom Z530 processor clocked at 1GHz and sporting 1GB Ram and a 120 GB hard drive. With the new Windows 7.0 operating system, it stands alongside many laptops but without their size. Its computing power is housed in a slim 264 x 185 x 19.9 mm all aluminum body that reminds you of the Apple Macbook.

Weighing just 2.75 lbs, it’s light and small enough to be unobtrusive inside a brief case.  More impressively, you won’t ever need to bring any bulky battery charger with you.  It lasts 12 hours on a single full charge.

It has an HD-quality 10.1” TFT screen and ported with HDMI 1.2 that’s quite unique for a netbook. The Nokia Booklet 3G sports many features in a flagship Nokia mobile phone like A-GPS, SD card and SIM card slots, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR with A2DP, 3G/HSPA, WCDMA and GSM/GPRS, and wireless data access with WiFi/WLAN/WWAN.   It comes with Nokia apps that integrate with Ovi and Nokia Music stores and social networking sites.

Something to Look Forward To This Christmas

Expected to arrive during the last quarter of the year with a street price in the €600 range, the Nokia Booklet 3G is taking shape as something that just might be in our the holiday shopping list.
