Samsung recently launched two of its recent additions to their touchscreen phone line-up that are set to be pitted against the LG Cookie. One of the devices is the Samsung S5600 and whilst the mobile phone is being marketed as a mid-range unit, it does pack some features that you can consider high-end.
Samsung incorporated the same user interface on the S5600 that they put on the S8300 only this UI has certain improvements on it. TouchWiz, as it is referred to, enables S5600 users to make use of widgets – mini applications that you can place on the homescreen to personalise the look of your phone. It also comes with a feature called the Screen Gesture Lock which allows for synchronized phone unlock and application opening. All you have to do is assign a letter to an application and when you draw that letter on the screen, it opens the phone and the application that you want to access. The Samsung S5600 also boasts of two finger-optimised galleries. You can access pictures by sweeping your finger across them without referring back to the photo list. As an alternative, you can also view pictures through the PhotoBrowser by accessing its icon on the menu. Because the S5600 has an accelerometer, it is easy to switch to landscape mode when looking at pictures plus, the screen automatically rotates the photographs according to the direction in which the phone is held.
Another advanced feature of the phone is its GPS which allows for geo-tagging and access to Google Maps. It also sports a 3 megapixel camera which is enhanced with features such as LED flash, autofocus and smile shutter. The S5600 has 3G HSDPA connectivity as well as Bluetooth, EDGE and GPRS for fast Internet browsing.
Samsung will release the S5600 this May and though there isn’t any official information on pricing, the handset will probably be in the £160 to £200 range.
