The Android-Powered Samsung i7500

samsung-i7500Samsung recently announced that it will be coming out with its first mobile phone to run Google’s Android platform. The Samsung i7500 is only the third mobile phone to feature the Android operating system and is being pitted directly against the HTC Magic. The first Android phone, the HTC Dream, was such a disappointment that people were starting to wonder if there ever was going to be a decent Android device.

There are high hopes for the Samsung i7500 especially as it showcases remarkable specifications. This unit runs on the Android 1.5 and as such users are afforded a variety of Google services such as Google Maps, Gmail, Google Search, Google Talk, YouTube and support for Google Latitude, Street View and so on. The touch screen of the Samsung i7500 measures 3.2 inches with AMOLED technology which makes for superior quality display and low power consumption. The screen is capacitive and boasts of an accelerometer that enables auto-rotate as well as handwriting recognition.

Video and audio capabilities are also enabled on this phone. It supports MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and WMV video files and WMA, MP3, AAC, AAC+ and e-AAC+ audio formats. It is very slim at 115 x 56 x 11.9 millimeters whilst battery life is at an impressive 1500 mAh. The Samsung i7500 will be released into the European market in June but there is no official word just yet on pricing.
