The word “lucido” is Italian meaning polished or sleek and whilst some people contend that the new candybar phone from Samsung lacks a bit of “flash”, its simple, refined look just speaks of style. The Samsung Lucido features a brush-metal finish accentuated by a red stripe along the screen’s edges. This is indeed simple but perhaps it was made that way so that you focus on its 2.2 inch AMOLED screen which really does display stunning colors – something that a TFT screen could never match. The homescreen is further enhanced with Flash support so the phone is fun to navigate. Apart from that awesome screen, the Lucido is packed with powerful features that even the most discerning business executive will go for. To begin with, the Lucido has 3G HSDPA connectivity that accounts for speedy downloads. It also comes with a built-in GPS complete with Google Maps and geo-tagging function.
The phone is outfitted with two cameras. One is a 5MP camera that you can use to capture high resolution photographs what with the LED photo flash, auto-focus, smile capture and face detection features. The other camera is dedicated to video calling.
The Samsung Lucido comes with an MP3 player and a stereo FM radio with RDS so you get two choices for listening pleasure. It is pre-loaded with games (and you can download some more if that is your preference), it has an organizer and document viewer and it has capabilities for voice memo/dial. It is equipped with a speakerphone and you can store as many as a thousand contacts in your phonebook. The Lucido has a total memory capacity of up to 8 gigabytes as you can expand the internal memory using a microSD card.
The Nokia 6700 and Sony Ericsson C902 are good competitors for the Lucido but the Samsung unit is more than capable of standing up to its rivals. The unit currently sells for £120.
