A Blast from The Past
The world is obsessed about development, and technological advancement. Every single day people are discovering something new, and devices are becoming smaller, faster and smarter. That is why it is very surprising to see the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness for its development marks a sort of regression in the technological world. Okay, it does come with a transparent screen and so, it is not exactly a machine of the past but its lack of features and simple design make it appear like a blast from the past (albeit a very stylish one).
The Design
This posh phone only has two basic features when design is being discussed. First, it has a pretty basic numerical keypad that is not unlike most other candy bar phones out there, except for the fact that it has no display or anything else written on it, when the phone is not in use. This makes this mobile phone serene and peaceful to look at when it is on standby.
The second feature is its transparent screen that makes the display look like it is being projected in thin air. This adds to the design’s ability to conjure up feelings of calmness and purity, which is exactly what Sony Ericsson intended. And so, in terms of the look, this mobile phone is simple, since it does not have the same flash and flare most other smartphones have but it is nonetheless, a beautiful phone, with its simplicity adding to its appeal.
Its Functionality
As for the functions, this mobile phone does not carry the same heavyweight features as other phones in the XPERIA line. In fact, its main philosophy revolves around “talk, text, time,” meaning apart from these three functions, there is hardly anything else in it. It does have support for quad-band GSM/EDGE, and will have Bluetooth connectivity and might even have a camera or an FM radio but those are mere add-ons; frivolous to the three main function.
And this is why this mobile phone is somewhat of a regression, for it brings you back to a time when technology was not as ingrained in everyday life. It is an escape from a digital life and allows one to embrace the simpler things, like beauty.
Sony Ericsson might have just released a phone that takes a step back in time. It might be a regression but it is still a beautiful offer, and one that is necessary in a market congested with the chaos that technology often comes with.
