Two major mobile phones have been confirmed to be compatible with T-Mobile USA: the HTC HD2 and the XPERIA X10. The two phones just got their FCC testing results in and they are compatible for the US mobile carrier. With these two devices in tow, T-Mobile is certainly beefing up its device lineup.
The XPERIA X10 is currently Sony’s biggest device (in terms of hardware) that is heading into the market; the Sony Ericsson Kurara comes as the second. The XPERIA X10 will be arriving early during the first quarter of 2010 –just in time for Sony’s holiday crash. Not that the company is in dire straits right now, the Satio, Aino, Yari and the GreenHeart phones make for an impressive holiday lineup, but not as good is it had the XPERIA X2 and X10 available as well.
The delay of X2 to next year places it launch date a little too close to the X10, many predict that the X2 will not hold out well on the market –with its competitor, the HTC HD2 already settled in its market position, the X2 has little space left. Anyway, the X10 is the very first 1GHz Android Snapdragon phone to be launched (the Acer Liquid Snapdragon Android run at a little under 800 MHz)l; making this device one of the most anticipated Android phones ever. The question that people ask now is if the X10 will be compatible with updates to new Android versions.
The HTC HD2 is an impressive Windows Mobile 6.5 phone; impressive because it packs all the amazing hardware from HTC while doing away with the problems of the Windows Mobile interface. Instead of letting its users tolerate the awkward WinMo UI, the HD2 comes with HTC Sense layered on top of Windows, giving users access to the Windows Mobile features without the fuss of WinMo.
The built in phone camera is a much used device, which is why it is surprising that factory problems with the camera can still go unchecked. But that is an early assessment of the problem with the HTC HD2, whatever the real problem originally was thought to be, HTC’s bright engineers have figured out the cause and will be delivering a solution to users soon.
The HD2’s camera is an impressive piece of hardware that takes excellent quality photos. Sadly, some HD2’s cameras are malfunctioning. According to a review from GSM Arena, several images they took with the HD2 camera had a spot of pink in the center. While they originally thought it was an isolated problem with their unit, they later found out that it was a case that was happening to other HD2 users.
While there are several HD2 devices that showed this error, other HD2 units were not affected by the pink spot error.
The initial response of HTC support was that it was a hardware issue and that the device needed to be replaced with the retailer. This raised concerns regarding the number of units that actually had the problem and the units that did not.
Fortunately, HTC took the time to actually figure out what the problem was and were able to isolate the cause to a software problem. HTC support officially states that “We can confirm that this issue has been determined as a software issue. The developers are working on a hotfix to resolve, and it will be released as soon as possible. There is not a specific date for the release as (of) yet, please continue to monitor the support pages for the release”
This is good news for any HD2 owners who are having the spot of pink problems with their camera as replacing a device can be quite a hassle.
If you have not considered your mobile phone as a gaming system, then you might have not had the chance to see the gaming lineup of the mobile industry in these past few months –or you have had the misfortune of being introduced to mobile game industry through the N-gage. Regardless, O2 is taking a promising step forward with its HTC HD2
Not Quite There Yet
As said, O2 is taking a step forward, in the right direction. This alone does not put a mobile phone on the same tier as a dedicated gaming device. Mobile phones are light years away from hand held gaming devices such as the Sony Playstation Portable or the Nintendo DS. But this step is significant because it still pushes the mobile industry forward. The recent months have seen major gaming companies developing, producing and distributing games for mobile phones. Among the most prominent are Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy Before Crisis and Konami Computer Entertainment & Kojima Production’s Metal Gear Solid Touch.
Loaded System
HTC promises an excellent gaming experience thanks to the current specs of the HD2 mobile phone. The screen alone is a whooping 4.3 inches, one of the largest for a mobile phone (the average touch screen mobile device has around 3.1 inches). The 1200mAh lithium ion battery promises to provide enough power for hours of entertainment.
Other Than Gaming
Gaming aside, there are other important media functions that a mobile phone will play. These are music and movie playback capabilities. The HTC HD2 can play back various file types for both media and thanks to the screen; you can actually enjoy the graphic quality of videos that is otherwise not possible on smaller devices.

Thanks to online retailers who have a habit of revealing details just that little bit too early, we can tell you that the HTC HD2 has just had its price, along with its release date, revealed curtesy of online retailer Expansys.
If you are interested in pre ordering, you are able to do so now – however it will set you back a whopping £549.99 – and it includes £30 worth of coupons to use with the website.
Even though HTC had claimed the phone would be released in about three weeks, the Expansys website is claiming the new release date for the highly anticipated HD2 is now the 11th of November; something that probably has a lot of people anxiously waiting more than a little annoyed.
Even with the expensive price tag, the HTC HD2 is worth it. It has some features you are unlikely to find on any cheaper mobile phones, along with a 4.3 inch touch screen display – that is massive.
There is also the HTC Sense user interface paired with Windows Mobile 6.5 to look forward to, meaning full Facebook integration as well as a rather neat full screen weather related widget.
Those of you wanting to take a look at the HTC HD2 now, or who are considering putting in a pre order, can do so over at the Expansys website. Naturally this is the best option if you want your mobile phone unlocked, although when networks planning to carry the phone are announced we will be providing a list here, so it may well be worth waiting to find the best deal closer to the actual release date.
HTC‘s highly anticipated Windows Mobile operating system 6.5 powered mobile phone the HTC HD2, also known as the HTC Leo, has been expected to join O2‘s offerings for some time now, however it seems that there are other networks with plans to add the handset to their own line ups in the near future. T Mobile is one such network.
Although at this stage nothing can be confirmed, the rumours indicate that the high end HTC HD2, or Leo, will be running on a very impressive 1 GHz CPU, (the Qualcomm Snapdragon we have all been looking forward to,) sport a 5 mega pixel camera with flash and auto focus, as well as an impressively large 4.3 inch touch screen display; of course to allow users to make the most of the TouchFLO 3D user interface that HTC wants to show off.
From what we already know for sure we can say that the HTC HD2 is definitely going to be one of the better mobile phones of the time to use the Windows Mobile operating system, and that if T Mobile does indeed add it to their line up that we’d be thrilled; more carriers means more users will be able to enjoy the HTC HD2 and the Touch2.
Although the HD2 hasn’t been officially announced yet, there is speculation that the mobile phone could make an appearance as early as later this week, with HTC already letting us know that the Touch2 will be on shelves tomorrow, the 6th of October. Check back with us; we’ll be bringing you more details and hopefully confirming some of the rumours in the coming days.
