HTC Leo

HTC‘s highly anticipated Windows Mobile operating system 6.5 powered mobile phone the HTC HD2, also known as the HTC Leo, has been expected to join O2‘s offerings for some time now, however it seems that there are other networks with plans to add the handset to their own line ups in the near future. T Mobile is one such network.

Although at this stage nothing can be confirmed, the rumours indicate that the high end HTC HD2, or Leo, will be running on a very impressive 1 GHz CPU, (the Qualcomm Snapdragon we have all been looking forward to,) sport a 5 mega pixel camera with flash and auto focus, as well as an impressively large 4.3 inch touch screen display; of course to allow users to make the most of the TouchFLO 3D user interface that HTC wants to show off.

From what we already know for sure we can say that the HTC HD2 is definitely going to be one of the better mobile phones of the time to use the Windows Mobile operating system, and that if T Mobile does indeed add it to their line up that we’d be thrilled; more carriers means more users will be able to enjoy the HTC HD2 and the Touch2.

Although the HD2 hasn’t been officially announced yet, there is speculation that the mobile phone could make an appearance as early as later this week, with HTC already letting us know that the Touch2 will be on shelves tomorrow, the 6th of October. Check back with us; we’ll be bringing you more details and hopefully confirming some of the rumours in the coming days.

O2′s Catalogue Shows HTC Leo

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

HTC Leo 1The HTC Leo, also referred to as the HTC HD2 and that HTC Pro Three, running the Windows Mobile operating system, has had rumours surrounding its launch for some time now, however these seem to have finally been confirmed after the HTC Leo was spotted in O2‘s October catalogue.

The rumoured release date for the high end mobile phone, which is expected to arrive with a Snapdragon processor and a huge touch screen display, is the 12th of October, although the catalogue pictures do not show us any information about pricing, and there is some speculation that the date could have been pushed back to as far as the 2th of October; but nothing is official, yet, so only time will tell.

The device pictured in the catalogue is shown with the stock standard Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system interface; but as there are no details available we really can’t be sure whether or not this will be the actual OS for the HTC Leo or if it will the TouchFLO 3D 2.5 user interface as recently discussed around the usual internet rumour mills.

We can confirm however the actual size of the HTC Leo’s touch screen is a fantastic 4.3 inches and is a WVGA touch screen display, allowing O2 to promote the mobile phone as featuring the largest screen currently available on any handset. There is a lot expected in terms of performance and the suspected push back of the release date seems to encourage that expectation.

After losing the exclusive partnership O2 was enjoying up until this week with Apple, the high end HTC Leo might be just the handset to fill in the gap.

UK Customers To Get HTC Leo In October

Monday, September 28th, 2009

HTC Leo 1The HTC Leo is definitely one of the most talked about Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets coming this year. With a large and impressive touchscreen display and its famous Snapdragon processor. We’ve heard several rumours for months now about possible release dates, however as it is now available for pre order online it seems we are finally getting close.

Various online stores in the Netherlands are already letting customers place advance orders on the HTC Leo, as well as listing a price tag for the mobile phone – which is currently sitting between 522 Euros and 592 Euros, depending on which sites you visit; all however list a fourth Quarter release date.

Although this only proves useful in terms of working out a price on the device, which will likely loosely line up with the $800 price America saw, there will likely be more information available soon with the impending launch date for the UK. While nothing is official yet there have been mumblings that the fourth quarter release could come as soon as the 12th of October; or a fortnight from now.

If the HTC Leo is indeed going to hit shelves in October the competition will be incredibly fierce, although that would likely be the case anytime during the period leading up to the holiday season. We are seeing countless traditional, low end, high end, social networking and as well as Windows Mobile OS and Android powered mobile phones flooding into the UK, providing great opportunities to thrive in the competition or be left behind for a “better model”.

The HTC Leo will undoubtedly have an official announcement made about its upcoming release shortly, so check back with us soon to find out more.

HTC Leo to be Touch Pro 3?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

HTC Leo 1New information and photos have emerged regarding the phone known as the HTC Leo, and the pictures seem to suggest a different name. Written on the back of the gargantuan touchscreen is the name Touch Pro 3 which may be an indication of what it will be known as upon release. The Leo boasts some impressive features, if this leaked info is to be believed, but is probably most noteworthy for its 4.3″ capacitive screen. The size of this screen makes phones that even today are considered to be a little bit on the big side somewhat piffling.

Operating on Windows Mobile 6.5 the Leo will come with TouchFlo 3D UI on board and this will all be powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor with 320MB RAM ensuring it will be a very snappy phone. The screen makes the Leo seem much wider and taller than other touchscreens but it is also thinner than most which seems to suggest that rumours of the Leo having a QWERTY pad are false.

Operating on GSM/EDGE the Leo will have 3G provided by WCDMA and HSPA, as well as coming with support for WLAN, Bluetooth and a microSD slot for increasing the 512MB already on board. As well as having a G-Sensor (accelerometer), the Leo will make use of an ambient light sensor and proximity sensor for some additional fun. The Leo also has a very nice camera with 5 megapixels, autofocus and 2 x LED flash and most likely many other features that will be become apparent when more official information is released, probably at some point later this month. The Leo is rumoured to be released during October and between now and then it will probably become clearer whether it will be known as the Leo or the Touch Pro 3.

The HTC Leo – An Upscale Smartphone to Die For

Monday, September 7th, 2009

htc-leoTaiwan-based HTC Corp has been in the middle of rumours online about its new handset it will release soon – the much anticipated HTC Leo.   Recent developments in the online speculation scene has it that the Leo won’t be coming out in the dual-screen clamshell form.  Rather, it will sport s full touchscreen QWERTY slider from.  But putting the form aside, it’s sure to be the next HTC flagship with a powerful Qualcomm’s MSM 8250 Snapdragon engine clocked at 1GHz running on the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 platform. This gives it true multitasking capability on a smartphone for a veritable PC in the Pocket performance.

Remarkable features for a Flagship Phone

Reports coming from reliable sources point to the HTC Leo being quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE with 3G/HSDPA for high speed data connectivity.  It comes with the usual high end features like GPS/A-GPS, WiFi/WLAN 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP support.  It will also house a generous 512 MB internal ROM and a 312 MB RAM for user files and apps and files.  And if that’s not enough, there’s a microSD memory expansion slot that supports up to 32GB.

The HTC Leo promises to deliver one of the finest multimedia mobile experiences starting with a 4.3-inch WVGA 400×800 capacitive touchscreen display.  The handset comes with the usual sensors like an accelerometer for automatic landscape or portrait viewing with the corresponding handset orientation, and a light sensor for adopting the display brightness to ambient light and a proximity sensor that disables touchscreen sensitivity when the handset is held against your face when making a call.  There’s an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash to complete its upscale multimedia function.

Coming Soon

HTC has yet to announce its launch date amidst speculation that it will arrive during the last quarter of 2009. But we are hopeful they won’t miss the holiday shopping season.

New footage of HTC TouchFlo 3D 2.6

HTC-TouchFLO-3D-Manila2.5-screenshotThe upcoming release of Windows Mobile 6.5 has been the source of much debate among the mobile phone community as it looks set to revolutionise the WinMo OS that is a constant target of critics. One of the more notable changes taking place is the new support for capacitive touchscreen technology which will undoubtedly open up a new world of possibilities for phone companies favouring the Microsoft OS. But with a new OS comes the need for a new UI, as many phone manufacturers cover the OS’ they use with their own interfaces.

One such company is HTC who have been developing a new revamped version of their much favoured TouchFlo interface. TouchFlo has been very popular among many WinMo users but there had been calls for HTC to bring their Sense UI to WinMo. HTC have stated that they will not be doing this but instead incorporating much of the philosophy behind Sense into the new TouchFlo, and it appears, much of the design appeal of Google’s very own Android.

The most noticeable Android inspired aspects of the new TouchFlo include the style of the icons and also the homsescreen. HTC have also added landscape modes for both the photo album and the media player’s album art browser. There has also been a move to integrate much more fully aspects of the old TouchFlo that felt like they were just slapped on afterthoughts, principally the Calendar and Weather tabs.

From the released videos the new TouchFlo 3D 2.6 still looks quite sluggish, particularly between menus and loading apps but it should be noted it is still in its development stages. There are no plans by HTC to use the interface before the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 and this is not expected until sometime later in the year. This should give HTC plenty of time to iron out any problems with what looks like a very promising interface that may even be capable of rejuvenating WinMo’s appeal among phone users. The new TouchFlo is expected to make its first appearance on the HTC Leo to be released sometime in early 2010.
